Một vài động từ ở dạng chủ động nhưng được sử dụng với nghĩa bị động.
Các động từ đó bao gồm:
Cut peel read
Sell wash
Ex: Tomatoes peel easily if you scald them in hot water
Một vài động từ theo sau là dạng Danh động từ (Gerund) nhưng lại mang nghĩa bị động. Dạng Gerund có thể thay bằng “to be + Pii” – ngữ pháp TOEIC
Deserve/require/want/need + V-ing
Ex: The shoes need polishing
=The shoes need to be polished

Chuyển thành
– S+have/has+something+done
Ex: The director had the machines repaired
– I saw Mr Peter going down the stairs
Chuyển thành
– Mr Peter was seen going down the stairs

– Mr Peter was seen to go down the stairs
